Kateeva named William Song director of sales and support for China and Taiwan. Song will lead Kateeva’s sales and customer support activities in the region, where mass production of OLED technology is accelerating and demand for the company’s precision deposition technology is on the rise.
Song brings experience in flat panel displays (FPDs), LEDs and semiconductors to Kateeva from previous roles at MKS Instruments, Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates (now Applied Materials) and Agilent Technologies. From his base in Shanghai, he will report to Larry Timm Kateeva, SVP of customer satisfaction.
Kateeva pioneered the YIELDjet platform to enable cost-effective mass production of OLED displays. The platform uses innovative inkjet printing as a manufacturing equipment solution. The first product to emerge from the platform is the YIELDjet FLEX. It was engineered to mass-produce flexible OLEDs by enabling thin film encapsulation (TFE).
Investment in OLED mass production in China and Taiwan is growing fast, as panel manufacturers scale up to meet demand for OLED products.
“They’re building panels for diverse applications, like flexible OLEDs for curved and bendable gadgets, OLEDs for solid-state lighting and RGB OLEDs for large-size TVs,” Kateeva president Conor Madigan noted. “And, they’re investing in advanced manufacturing equipment to get to high-volume production. This trend makes the region a natural fit for Kateeva’s YIELDjet platform. It’s an exciting time for William to join the team.”
“It’s a thrill to join the team that’s transforming OLED mass production with its innovative inkjet printing manufacturing equipment,” Song said.
Song joins Kateeva from MKS Instruments, where he was sales director for China. MKS supplies technologies to capital equipment manufacturers serving the semiconductor, FPD, LED and other industries. Before MKS, Song was at Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates as sales director for China, responsible for driving sales of the company’s capital equipment to semiconductor, solar, LED and FPD customers. At Agilent Technologies, Song served as senior sales manager for the company’s service sales in East China. He began his career as an electrical engineer.
