SCHOTT is looking to further strengthen its position in the Japanese market for electronic components. For this reason, the company has decided to enter into an agreement with its current joint venture partner NEC Corporation, to purchase the remaining shares in the joint venture NEC SCHOTT Components Corp., Minakuchi, Japan.
With the acquisition of NEC Corporation’s 49 percent share, the joint venture will become a fully-owned SCHOTT subsidiary. The transaction is expected to be concluded by the end of the year.
NEC SCHOTT Components Corp. is one of Japan’s leading electronic component manufacturers for glass-to-metal seals and thermal fuses. Key applications for these products include electronic devices, consumer electronics, the automotive industry and optoelectronics. NEC SCHOTT Components Corp. was founded in 2000 and employs approximately 190 people.
