The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority (TIBA) selected TransCore to design, develop, and maintain a next-generation toll collection system for its iconic international bridge that connects Wellesley Island, NY to Hill Island, Ontario, Canada.
TransCore will replace TIBA’s legacy system, which was installed in 1992, with its flagship Infinity∞ Digital Lane System. In addition to providing state-of-the-art technology, the new system enables seamless interoperability – for local residents and those who travel throughout North America – to further enhance mobility and bi-national trade between the U.S. and Canada. The Infinity system will be fully-integrated with the Customer Service Center operations of the New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) and provides TIBA with the industry’s latest electronic toll collection functionality and a pathway to benefit from future system enhancements as technology evolves.
TransCore will also install its Encompass 6 multiprotocol readers to process E-ZPass transactions and issue eGo Plus sticker tags to support TIBA’s commuter discount fare program. TransCore will manage the discount program with its Integrity Back Office System. The TIBA program offers tolling discounts to daily commuters or frequent travelers.
“The opening of the Thousand Islands Bridge 80 years ago marked a new era of connectivity and commerce between our two nations,” TIBA Executive Director Robert G. Horr, III said. “We fully expect this new toll collection system to enable even greater international convenience and mobility, and support long-term expected growth in the region.”
TransCore’s Infinity tolling system integrates automatic vehicle identification, vehicle classification, and video capture and recognition systems specifically designed to automatically and accurately collect transactions in high-volume traffic across a wide variety of traffic speeds and patterns. Infinity’s fully-integrated digital video audit system also provides agencies with a real-time, user-friendly tool to facilitate true end-to-end revenue traceability and auditability.
TransCore will maintain the new system in partnership with TIBA staff, employing its Insight Maintenance Online Management System. The new system will also have the capability to remotely configure lanes and monitor system performance 24/7/365 in real-time from TransCore’s remote Maintenance Monitoring Centers established throughout the United States.
“TransCore fully recognizes the importance this new toll collection system will have on international mobility and trade,” TransCore VP Sean Persaud said. “We are honored to partner with TIBA and share their vision for a tolling solution that can continually evolve to meet the needs of a changing international transportation landscape.”
