As the Large-area, Organic and Printed Electronics Convention (LOPE-C) concludes its three-day conference and exhibition today at Messe Frankfurt, the Organic Electronics Association (OE-A), the conference’s organizers are understandably pleased with the event. The OE-A, part of the VDMA (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau - German Engineering Federation), was founded in 2004 with 35 member companies, and has grown to more than 140 members, and LOPE-C 2010, its second annual conference, enjoyed excellent growth in terms of speakers, exhibitors and most notably, attendees.
While next week will feature a more in-depth review of LOPE-C 2010, a quick look at the show’s growth is in order. According to OE-A’s numbers, attendance for LOPE-C 2010 was more than 800, 33 percent growth over the 600 attendees who came to Frankfurt for LOPE-C 2009. Slightly more than half of the attendees came from overseas.
The number of exhibitors also rose dramatically, from 50 in 2009 to 89 for LOPE-C 2010, a 78 percent jump. As a global, show, LOPE-C drew exhibitors from 13 countries. To meet the needs of the exhibitors, exhibition space more than doubled, from 480 square meters in 2009 to 1,100 square meters this year, and the OE-A had to expand the show floor to accommodate increased demand.
Attendees also had the opportunity to learn more about PE: There were 180 presentations given at LOPE-C 2010, 50 percent more than the 120 talks given at LOPE-C 2009. These talks covered a wide range of topics, organic photovoltaics (OPV), OLED displays and lighting, flexible displays, printed electronics, smart systems, materials, equipment and processes, production and, of course, end-users. LOPE-C also featured its Business Conference and the new Investor Forum.
Presentations were given by major companies such as Samsung, Sony, Fiat, Nokia, Philips, Sumitomo, Plastic Logic, Gruner & Jahr, Konarka, Plextronics, HP, 3M, Solvay, Solarmer and more than 130 other companies.
The Business Conference provided an overview on the commercialization, production and business concepts, while the Investor Forum, supported by the European Commission and the European Investment Fund, allowed companies to make presentations to an international audience of investors and venture capital firms.
In response to the excellent growth of LOPE-C 2010, the OE-A has already announced plans to hold LOPE-C 2011 from June 28-30, 2011 at Messe Frankfurt.
