Lighting is being used for so much more than, well, light. Lighting is also seen as being therapeutic for health. Light Tree Ventures has developed intriguing technology in this segment and is staking out a position as one of the leaders in this field.
Headquartered in The Netherlands, Light Tree Ventures specializes in LED Light Therapy. The company has a worldwide presence, with a factory in China and locations in India and in Denver, CO. Martin de Rijke, lead business development for Light Tree Ventures, noted that light therapy has many use cases.
“Light therapy is being used for muscle recovery, anti-acne and anti-aging,” de Rijke reported. “Light is a very natural way of treating the body; blue, red and infrared light offers the most benefits.”
Clinical studies show that blue light destroys acne-causing bacteria and targets inflammation. Red light penetrates the skin below the surface, making it ideal for wrinkles, scars and pain relief. The company has a variety of products, most notably the Aduro mask, which provides mainly Red light to offer anti-aging benefits.
“Using light therapy exposes the body to the healthy wavelengths of light,” he added. “Infrared light penetrates deeply in the skin, helping you to recover your muscles. It stimulates the blood flow, bringing more nutrients, oxygen and vitamins in the targeted parts of your body.”
“For anti-aging, we have LED masks that shine red light on your face,” he noted. “We also have handheld devices that you can navigate over parts of your body. Acne is a handheld device. Pain relief is more broad – we have wraps that can be wrapped around the body, such as the back, the knee or other areas. We have panels that can be put on the ground that the person can next to for a full body treatment.”
Light Tree Ventures emphasizes its knowledge of the regulatory aspects connected to light therapy, ensuring its product is safe. “Our key competitive advantages are that we regulatory experts in house, which helps us make devices with the right certifications,” de Rijke observed. “We are really a medical device company. This is a rapidly growing market. A lot of companies make devices that don’t comply with regulations, which could be harmful to users.”
Light Tree Venture is having success in the market. “The main way is direct to consumer, through web and in-store sales,” said de Rijke. “We have products featured in Sephora, products on Amazon. We also do private label products for major companies. Our main markets are the US, where it is FDA cleared. There are also some devices that are professionally used in beauty salon and spas.”
“The light therapy model is really booming and we are a global leader,” he added. “One of the big trends is going natural and sustainable. The wearables market Is seeing a lot of innovation. We are receiving a lot of requests. The light therapy market is definitely very exciting.”
