There are many interesting developments occurring in the field of flexible and printed electronics (PE). There are products that have reached the market, and others seem poised to grow in the next year. Time will tell as to which of these technologies will succeed.
This edition of Printed Electronics Now features our annual Suppliers Guide. The Suppliers Guide offers our comprehensive listing of manufacturers of printed electronics systems, raw materials, equipment and services, and provides key data and contact information for these suppliers, researchers and organizations in the printed electronics industry. In addition to this issue, our Suppliers Guide information can also be found on the web at www.printedelectronicsnow.com.
Meanwhile, there have been numerous developments in printed and flexible electronics. One area of interest is smart packaging, and in “Opportunities in the Smart Packaging Market,” beginning on page 13, I highlight a few recent developments in this field.
Oraginc photovoltaics, or OPV, is another area that holds promise, although OPV has not taken off as was predicted a few years back. Still, there are interesting developments to report, both in the research labs and in commercial production, as I note in my article, “OPV Market is Beginning to See Gains,” which starts on page 15.
Touch displays are another area where flexible and printed electronics is making headway, and utilizing the best materials is key. I spoke with leaders in the display and touch screen industry and major suppliers to see where the technology stands, and their insights can be found in “New Developments in Materials for Displays and Touch Screens,” starting on page 18.
The choice of substrates is a key part of the PE manufacturing process, and substrate suppliers offer their thoughts in “Choosing the Right Substrates for Flexible and Printed Electronics,” which begins on page 21.
I hope you enjoy this issue of Printed Electronics Now, and as always, I welcome your thoughts on the opportunities and challenges faced by the flexible and printed electronics field.
